The Role:
This role will focus on the creation of trend-led, innovative, and functional sportswear designs that cater to the brand’s dynamic, fashion-forward audience. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in seamless garment design, a strong understanding of fabric technology, and a passion for blending aesthetics with performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of seamless activewear collections, ensuring that all pieces align with Bo+Tee’s brand ethos of fashion-forward functionality.
- Design across various sportswear categories, including leggings, sports bras, shorts, tops, and outerwear, using seamless technology to create high-performance yet fashionable garments.
- Stay ahead of market trends by researching new seamless knitting techniques, yarn innovations, and functional design details.
- Ensure that the collections incorporate the latest fabric technologies, color palettes, and design elements suited for high-performance sportswear.
- Work closely with the technical team to ensure that designs are translated effectively into samples and production, with a focus on fit, performance, and comfort.
- Provide detailed design specifications, including technical sketches, fabric, and trim selection, to ensure seamless garments meet production standards.
Collaborative Product Development:
- Collaborate with product developers, the buying team, and manufacturers to ensure that designs are commercially viable and meet the brand’s quality standards.
- Work with pattern cutters and garment technologists to refine product fit and functionality, ensuring that seamless garments perform as intended in real-life athletic scenarios.
- Source and select fabrics, yarns, and trims that are suitable for seamless technology, considering both performance and sustainability where possible.
- Liaise with fabric mills and suppliers to stay up to date with the latest developments in seamless technology and material innovation.
Project & Team Leadership:
- Mentor and guide junior designers, fostering a creative and innovative design environment.
- Lead the design process from concept through to final samples, ensuring that deadlines are met and collections are delivered on time.
- Work closely with the Product & Designer Director to ensure that all collections align with Bo+Tee’s creative vision, offering input into the seasonal design direction and strategy.
- Present design concepts and collections to senior management, providing clear rationale for design choices based on trend research and market needs.
Sustainability & Innovation:
- Explore opportunities to incorporate sustainable materials and manufacturing practices into seamless sportswear collections.
- Work with suppliers to ensure Bo+Tee’s seamless products are produced with environmental considerations in mind.
- Continuously seek out new techniques, materials, and technologies to push the boundaries of what is possible with seamless sportswear, contributing to Bo+Tee’s reputation as an innovative brand.
Skills & Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in sportswear or activewear design, with a strong focus on seamless garment technology.
- Proven track record of designing commercially successful sportswear collections for an established brand.
- In-depth knowledge of seamless garment construction, yarns, and fabric technology.
- Strong technical skills, including the ability to create detailed technical sketches, spec sheets, and design documentation.
- Strong awareness of fashion and activewear trends, with the ability to translate trends into functional, wearable sportswear designs.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other relevant design software.
- Experience working with 3D design software or seamless knitting CAD systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey design concepts to cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with overseas manufacturers and fabric mills, particularly in seamless garment production.
- A background in sustainable sportswear design is a plus.
