About the Department
We are looking for a Junior Data Engineer to support data integration and management across the business, contributing to informed decision-making and actionable insights.
Working within the Tech team, this role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in unifying data from various third-party tools used across departments such as Operations, Merchandising, Finance, Marketing, and Trading. By helping consolidate data into our cloud-based warehouse, you’ll play a key role in creating the foundation for efficient data processing and high-quality analytics delivery.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day management of data flows from third-party systems into our data environment for reporting and analysis.
- Support the build and maintenance of ETL processes and data warehouse architecture to meet the reporting and analytical needs of the business.
- Contribute to the delivery of ad-hoc data and reporting requests.
- Help ensure best-practice processes and project management for the Snowflake data warehouse.
- Support the integration of new third-party systems into the Oh Polly data ecosystem, ensuring data consistency and quality.
- Work closely with the Tech team and other departments to ensure data quality and consistent definitions across tools.
- Collaborate with the Operations team to streamline data processes, reducing reliance on manual inputs and multiple tools to improve operational performance.
- Help gather business requirements to contribute to Oh Polly's future data strategy.
- Apply best practices in data quality, governance, and project management, learning and growing these skills over time.
- Provide support in identifying and solving data-related challenges within the team and across departments
Requirements
- A technical mindset, with foundational experience in SQL and Python (essential).
- Experience working with server or cloud SQL databases (basic knowledge acceptable, with room for growth).
- Able to translate business needs into technical data requirements with guidance.
- Exposure to DBT for transformations is desirable but not required.
- Eager to learn and driven by best practices and a desire to do things the right way.
- Well-organised, with a systematic approach to work and strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ideally, 1+ year of experience in a relevant role, or demonstrable experience through internships, projects, or education.
- An understanding of data processes and a willingness to learn about ETL development.
- Experience manipulating/analysing data from large databases is advantageous but not essential.
- Basic understanding of project management practices (e.g., Agile, Prince) is a plus but not essential.

- Salary: £30,000-£40,000
- Hours: Monday – Friday 9.00-5.30 (Flexible hours)
- Minimum 3 months contract
